1963, naissance d'une légende
THE ROLLING STONES.... Ces trois petits mots qui déclenchent instantanémant dans l'esprit de milliers de personnes des réactions très diverses selon l'être récepteur. Ces sentiments peuvent aller de l'admiration à l'amour en passant par l'envie et même le dégoût...
Personnages, qui semblent être sortis d'une bande dessinée de fiction, devenus légende...
Souvenirs !
....Le début de cette légende se situe aux environs de 1963 (cette année là, Serge, mon aîné a fêté le 12 juin son premier anniversaire). La BEATLEMANIA fait rage ; ces quatre garçons dans le vent vendent déjà un certain nombre de disques et bénéficient d’une bonne presse car ils apparaissent aux yeux de nos aînés comme des enfants de bonne famille chantant de très belles mélodies. En France, Johnny Hallyday et les Chaussettes Noires
(qui ne vont pas tarder à se séparer. Eddy Micthell décide de faire carrière solo, avec la suite que nous connaissons) représentent l’élite de tous les chanteurs de rock n’roll « made in France ».

Nous sommes en pleine vague YE-YE et subissons le matraquage sur les antennes de chansons style l’école est finie, yé… l’école est finie… etc…C’est à cette époque qu’apparaissent ces cinq troublions, ces empêcheurs de tourner rond. Eux qui sont restés fidèles à Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Muddy Watters (dont la composition Rolling stone blues servit de nom de baptême au futur groupe) c’est à dire au Rock et au Rythm and blues des Noirs. The Rolling Stones font leur entrée sur le marché du disque avec des titres comme Come on de Chuck Berry ou I wanna be your man des Beatles.

ces pierres qui roulent ?… Qui se cache derrière ce nom pour le moins bizarre ?… Le dos d’une pochette de disque répond à cette question.
*** MICK JAGGER, chant et harmonica, 19 ans, de grands yeux bleus, aime la cuisine chinoise.
BRIAN JONES, chant, guitare et harmonica, 19 ans, blond. Fume jusqu’à 60 cigarettes par jour. A fait tous les métiers, a joué dans un orchestre de jazz.
BILL WYMAN, chant et guitare basse, 21 ans, les joues creuses, les cheveux noirs, très pâle. Admirateur de Chuck Berry. Surnom : le Fantôme.
KEITH RICHARDS, guitare , 19 ans, cheveux noirs, aimerait vivre dans un bateau sur la tamise. Collectionne les disques de Chuck Berry et de Jimmy Reed.
CHARLIE WATTS, drums, 21 ans, le beau brummel du groupe. Possède plus de 100 mouchoirs. Surnom : Charlie BOY. *** disque DECCA n° 457.043 M
Deux amis d’enfance qui se retrouvent… Keith et Mick… Un ami commun: Dick Taylor (il créera plus tard the Pretty Things)...Le premier est un fervent adepte de Chuck Berry, de plus il a appris la guitare et joue déjà fort bien. Quant à Mick il paraît préférer le chant (le blues surtout) que toute autre activité. Il poursuit malgré tout des études qui se passent bien, car apparemment, même si cela surprend ses détracteurs futurs, Mick Jagger, leader des Rolling Stones, n’est ni sot, ni débile, n’en déplaise à certains. Dick Taylor joue de la basse.
Alexis Corner, musicien de jazz de l’époque, présente à ces trois inséparables à un de ses amis : il est blond, il est beau, il deviendra aussi célèbre, aussi critiqué que Mick Jagger…. Brian Jones. Ce dernier joue aussi de la guitare et se joint au trio déjà formé. Il manque, pour constituer une vraie formation, un batteur. Ce sera chose réglée quand Charlie Watts, batteur du groupe d’Alexis Corner rejoindra le quartet formé par Mick, Keith, Brian, Dick.
The Rolling Stones sont nés ! Pas définitivement peut-être, puisque quelques temps après, Dick Taylor laisse sa place à un bassiste engagé après maintes auditions (les Rolling Stones sont déjà très difficiles quant au choix des musiciens). Ce bassiste que l’on surnommera le Fantôme à cause de son immobilité sur scène, de sa pâleur et de son calme légendaire : c’est Bill Wyman.
Si les Beatles ont l’appui de la presse anglaise, les Rolling Stones, eux, se mettent à dos toute la Gentrie anglaise. *** Ils s’habillaient avec une excentricité agressive, laissant leurs cheveux pousser n’importe comment et chantant exclusivement des blues de Willie Dixon ou de Muddy Watters, dont le moins qu’on puisse dire, est qu’ils n’étaient pas à mettre dans toutes les oreilles. *** SACHA REINS, BEST du 1 oct 1970.
Les Beatles et les Rolling Stones ont une voie parallèle, les premiers sont l’image de la gentillesse, et les seconds sont le symbole de la méchanceté. Les Beatles sont mignons, ils sont très polis, ils ont un costume bien taillé. Même la Reine Elisabeth les reçoit pour les entendre chanter. Les Rolling Stones sont horribles, en deux mots, ils font peur aux braves gens.
N’oublions pas qu’à cette époque un orchestre, digne de ce nom, devait se présenter sur scène en smocking ; tous les musiciens étaient vêtus de façon identique (c’était la règle). Par exemple les célèbres Shadows, les Beatles, les Kinks, les Chaussettes Noires ou Johnny Hallyday. Imaginez vous ces cinq garçons faisant leur apparition sur les scènes comme si ils venaient d’arriver quelques minutes auparavant, donnant l’impression de ne pas avoir les moyens de se payer un costume de scène ! Les clodos du music hall. Et puis ces cheveux au vent, ces bottines… En résumé une attitude qui n’est pas pour rassurer. *** Les Rolling Stones ? oh, no, shocking... Absolutely disgusting ???... Partout où Mick, Keith, Brian, Bill et Charlie passent, c’est l’émeute. Les Beatles aussi me direz vous, mais le public des Stones est à l’image de ses idoles, mal peigné, débraillé, grossier souvent. En un mot on va à un concert des Beatles en complet veston et à un concert des Stones en jean et sans cravate ? D’ailleurs cette décontraction vestimentaire, les Stones en ont fait un de leurs atouts de scène. Il arrivent habillés n’importe comment : T-shirt, lewis, foulard de soie, vestes aux couleurs vives.
